Jodie and Mark open the show from The Finishing Stitch in Littlestown, Pennsylvania. They talk about the trends in quilting today and the interest in modern quilting. But, they conclude that reproduction fabrics and traditional designs will always bump the modern in popularity. Mark shows the scrappy quilt he designed for the Jan/Feb 2013 issue of Love of Quilting magazine featuring blue, cream and white reproduction fabrics from Andover Fabrics.

Jodie visits with Bobbe Benvin who has combined her love of history and quilting to find her niche in the world of antique quilts. What quilting designs were appropriate for that time period? She saw a need, had the expertise and filled the need by writing two books of historic quilting designs.

The techniques of quilting and rug hooking are both similar and different and we’re finding lots of cross pollination among the various needlecrafts. Because of this quilt shops are selling more wool for both applique and rug hooking. Jodie and Mark show their attempts at rug hooking and talk about Mark’s doorknock, Marion Sachs, who is a master at both rug hooking and quilting. Do you know what a spite rug is? Watch and see. Then at the Quilt Patch in Littlestown, Pennsylvania Jodie does a “how to” demonstration at the Baby Lock sewing machine showing how advanced features of today’s machines make stitching a buttonhole applique stitch a snap. Here’s a hint…pivoting is essential in getting a perfect stitch.

Jodie and Mark open the show from the Finishing Stitch, a shop located in Littlestown, Pennsylvania, that’s been in business 31 years. Owner Jean Mirizio worked at the shop 18 years before buying it.

In this episode they’ll show how quilting and rug hooking are both similar and different, but both are all about the colors. They spotlight a new notion by Clover. Jodie visits with Merrily Parker of Merrily We Quilt Along for what to look for in a longarm machine. Then Mark’s off for his surprise doorknock.
